A few months ago,Prateik Babbarwalked the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival with Aamir Khan and director Kiran Rao at the premiere of their filmDhobi Ghat.

It could well be a career-making film for the actor who received a standing ovation at Toronto for his work as a dhobi (washerman) with a glamorous career in mind.
But as he said later, he 'did not know what to make out of the excitement.'
"He is a very shy person," his aunt Anita Patil-Deshmukh tells us helpfully. "But if you give him time, he will talk."
"This (Dhobi Ghat) is his second film," she adds. "After a cameo role in Jaane Tu Na... Jaane Na. People should not mistake his reticence."
Anita is his aunt, the elder sister of Pratiek's famous mother Smita Patil.
Prateik was in New York last week to attend the movie retrospective Bhumika: The Roles of Smita Patil and an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia connected to the actress.
The experience of people who knew his mother speaking about what she meant to them clearly overwhelmed the 24-year-old actor at the event.
The retrospective was organised by the Film Society of Lincoln Centre, the distinguished arts centre in New York city, and the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival.

Reality TV producer arrested in wife's Mexico death

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman was taken into custody by U.S. marshals in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon on a warrant from Mexico in the death of his wife, the U.S. attorney's spokesman said.
The "aggravated homicide" warrant, unsealed Tuesday, accused Beresford-Redman of killing his wife, Monica Beresford-Redman, "by asphyxiating her" at a Cancun, Mexico, resort on April 5.
Beresford-Redman was arrested without incident at his Rancho Palos Verdes, California, home, officials said. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance before a federal magistrate in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, U.S. attorney spokesman Thom Mrozek said.
His Los Angeles lawyer said he was "disappointed" by the arrest.
"Based upon our investigation, he is an innocent man being wrongfully accused by a foreign government," Richard Hirsch said. "We hope that after full consideration of both sides, a federal court will decide not to extradite him."The couple and their two young children were staying at the Moon Palace Resort. Monica Beresford-Redman's body was found in a resort sewer on April 8.The initial investigation suggested she "died of strangulation, because of the bruising," Mexican regional police spokesman Adrian Cardena said.The extradition request cited as evidence several witness statements, including one from two British teenagers who were in the hotel room below where the Beresford-Redmans were staying.The boys wrote that they were awakened by "screams, crying for help and extremely loud banging from the room above" at 6 a.m. on April 5. "It sounded like a woman in extreme distress" and lasted for 15 minutes, their statement said.The document, which used her maiden name, said the couple "had been having marital troubles for some time before her murder.""The marital problems continued in Cancun," it said. "In a conversation from Cancun on April 4, 2010, Monica Burgos told her sister, Ferreira Burgos, that she had found evidence that [Beresford-Redman] was still in contact with the woman with whom he was having the affair."Bruce Beresford-Redman was charged with his wife's slaying in May and an extradition request from Mexico was delivered to the U.S. government in June.The arrest was delayed when his lawyers in Mexico filed an "amparo" with a federal court in Mexico City, a document arguing there is not probable cause to charge him, a defense lawyer said.Hirsch, in a summer CNN interview, accused the state judge in Mexico of "a rush to judgment" in charging Beresford-Redman, saying "it appears that this case is being handled in a manner outside the normal procedures in Mexico."The producer was briefly detained by police in Mexico after his wife's body was found in April. His passport was taken by investigators, and he was told not to leave Mexico until the inquiry was concluded. Beresford-Redman returned home in May, without the knowledge of investigators, to take care of family business and see his children, his lawyer said.He has lived in his Rancho Palos Verdes home with his children since May, although his parents have temporary legal custody of the children, ages 3 and 5.Bruce Beresford-Redman built his career as a Hollywood reality television show producer. Akshaye Khanna to surprise 'TMK' audience: Farah

Mumbai: Actor Akshaye Khanna, who plays a funny overdoing actor in Tees Maar Khan, would come as a jolt to the audience, says director Farah Khan.
"He is playing a bad actor in the film. He is playing a superstar but with full acting in it. He has worked so freely in the film that he is going to be the surprise factor of the film," Farah told in an interview.
"He has requested not to promote him and leave audience to watch him in the film. He is very reclusive and that's how he is, so I also respect him," she added.

The name of the film Tees Maar Khan is kept in alias to the lead character (Akshay Kumar) who plays a con man as he believes himself to be the criminal 'kalakar' (artiste). It's not a negative character though.
"It's not a negative character, its funny. He is half Robin Hood, because he robs the rich but keeps the loot for himself," said Farah.
Farah claimed the item number "Sheela ki jawani…" that she choreographed for her lead actress Katrina Kaif in the film, was very different from the recent hit "Munni Badnam Hui… of "Dabangg.
"There has to be obvious comparison with ‘Munni…' but they are totally different type of songs. ‘Munni…' is a very earthy, rustic rural India song, ‘Sheela ki jawani…' is like a Chicago make of a Bhojpuri song," she said.
Farah said that Katrina worked hard to tone her figure to fit the image she had conceived and she is all praise for her performance.
"She didn't have to lose weight, she actually toned her body. I told her, your stomach has to be seen and I told her that I would give her knotted cholis and low waist half saris. I explained to her what she has to wear, so she toned herself so that she would be comfortable while dancing," said Farah.
"She has danced so fabulously that her performance is at par with any other heroine dancer down the ages," she said.

Shreyas Talpade apologises

Shreyas Talpade, who plays a man with stammering problem in 'Golmaal 3', says the intention of the movie or the character was never to hurt the feelings of people with speech disabilities.
“Have we really offended people?” he asks disbelievingly. “If we have, I am really sorry. But that was never the intention. Hum sabko ek hi maante hai. We would be the last people to make fun of somebody's weakness. All of us have some or the other kind of ailment. And that is what we have tried to portray in the film. Tusshar plays the mute guy but walks away with the heroine in 'Golmaal 2'."
Shreyas says that 'Golmaal' made his directors and producers take notice of the fact that he can do comedy roles as well. He confirms, 'Golmaal Returns' changed many perceptions. After my films like 'Dor' and 'Iqbaal', people thought that I could only do serious roles. There were a few directors who even told me that they like my acting but they were not sure whether I could pull off a comedy. 'Golmaal' gave people the confidence in me that I can be humorous as well.” He adds, “I just feel proud that I am a part of 'Golmaal' series. It’s a part of history as it is the first trilogy of India. It's scoring more points with every sequel.”

And Shreyas stresses that this success has been achieved with loads of hard work. He says, “There are many people working on ‘'Golmaal' and hence there is always a lot of activity on the sets. There are times when you don't want to get up to give your shot because you are very tired but you have to.”
Shreyas confirms that few of the most difficult scenes to enact in 'Golmaal 3' were the entry scenes of all the actors. He says, “For the entry sequence I had to stand atop a giant wheel. To go up there and maintain your balance and look like one cool dude is pretty difficult.”
Shreyas has already started working on his upcoming projects – 'Teen The Bhai' by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Sagar Bellery's 'Hum, Tum and Shabana' and 'Chemistry' by Sai Kabeer. Before that he is headed for a long holiday with wife, Deepti during the New Year break.
Shreyas says, “Work is important but my family definitely comes first. At some point you realise that you are working so hard to keep your family happy. This year has been pretty hectic for me so a long holiday is scheduled by the end of the year.”

People in our film industry do take risks. They do an offbeat film, they turn themselves from actor to director, and they do an overnight Hollywood migration. But this man has just about done something which can be rightly described as 'out of the ordinary'. The term Prem Raj has evolved to describe an unpredictable factor in any number of domains. Now don't ask me the question: Who is Prem Raj? Because it definitely isn't Prem and Raj - two of the most clichéd Hindi cinema screen names. Having said that, the word Prem Raj is synonymous with one of India's biggest super stars: Salman Khan. Didn't get it? Ok, let's flash back here. The director ofMain Aur Mrs Khanna, Prem Soni is back. He is back from the brink with a new identity, Prem Raj. I call him 'The Wild Card'. But we all lovingly call him Prem. So for the rest of the interview, let's stick to the latter. Prem just hasn't changed his name but fortunes too. He has a big announcement to make which might leave the rest of the Indian film fraternity in a bit of frenzy.

This bit of news is going to take you on a long ride of exciting reading. So fasten your seat belts because Prem is officially announcing here on Bollywood Hungama his exclusive three film deal with himself. Again the question, isn't it? Ok, I won't torture you guys. I'll answer. Prem is all set to make three films under his own production company called 'Wild Card Entertainment Private Limited'.

Not one, not two but three films will be produced by Prem Raj under his company which will then be backed by another big production house for distribution and association. Prem hasn't just taken a risk, he has doubled it up. Tripled it up is what most of you would be thinking.

To ask how he felt announcing the big breaking news on Bollywood Hungama, he said, "I've always been a big fan ofBollywood Hungama and know its reach. What better way than to announce my three films on the world's most popular Bollywood gateway."

So here's an exclusive update from Prem Raj on his next three films:

Bombay Muumbai

Prem Soni"Bombay Muumbai is a love story with a backdrop of Bombay's turn around into Mumbai with a gap of almost fifteen years between the first and the second half. The film tells the story of two people who separated in Bombay during the 1990's and met up in Mumbai during the mid 2000.

This is the first time you'll be seeing in a film that the main couple in the film are going to be playing 23 year olds in the first half and at the same time they'll be playing 38 year olds in the second half. More than that, it's predominantly about the city fifteen years ago and how love stories were in Bombay and how the love gets transformed into Mumbai. What are the differences in the two time gaps and is Bombay better or is Mumbai better.

The film is going to start by the end of this year and it will be having new faces. I believe that the city is the main hero and the protagonist. So I've decided that I need new faces because the story is very strong. The male lead is decided but it's too early to take his name as of now. I am still searching for the girl and will announce both their names once the female lead is locked. I am also in talks with the director which I will announce once we finalize him. I've seen Bombay in my early teens and I see it today too with the youths. Finally it's a story about how love evolves in changing times."

Merrry Christmas

"Merrry Christmas will tentatively start early next year. It's a tentative title as of now and is filmed in the romantic city Paris. It's a story of two soul mates coming together in Paris and living a beautiful life. The story is split into two halves where you get to see a strict life of two people. It's got its own twist and turns and is a love story.

The film is called Merrry Christmas because it revolves around the Christmas season. I have the script for the last eight months now and I am planning to make this for quite a long time now. I am in talks with one of the top actors of our industry and is almost on the verge of finalizing him. The announcement is going to happen soon and a big studio is going to back it up.

Merrry Christmas is going to be directed by me."

"This one is a biggie. I Am Hariprasad stars my best friend Salman Khan. It had to be him in the title role. He plays Hariprasad in the film. The world audience will love him in this kind of a film. Half the battle is already won when you have Salman in the film. He is the best Hariprasad I could ever have.

I Am Hariprasad is a very unusual film for me to direct. I have written the script of the film too and it's not something you'll expect out of me because I believe in love stories and this one is not a love story.

There will be two leading ladies opposite him in the film and I Am Hariprasad deals with the biggest business in the world, business which is always on the upswing and is possibly the only thing which flourishes more than the recession - Religion.

I Am Hariprasad focuses on the relationship of man with God and the bridge between the two. Hariprasad is the Godman. It focuses on the Hinduism. Salman had his own inputs in the film and is working hard on this one. It is one of my ambitious films and is hilarious. It's going to make people laugh and at the same time the film has drama."

So if anyone thinks that Barack Obama is the busiest man on this planet, just rethink of a man called Prem Raj. Three back to back films produced by him, two of which he'll direct and one of which will have Salman Khan. Did Deepika Padukone hear this bit? What about Sonam Kapoor? All new leading ladies...beware, Prem is on the prowl...and if this ain't breaking news...what is?

Producer Feroz Nadiadwala waited four years for Akshay Kumar to return to the third film in theHera Pheri series before they parted ways because of the price factor. With Akshay gone, Feroz had to change the entire cast of Hera Pheri.

Now Abhishek Bachchan plays Akshay Kumar's role. Nana Patekar has stepped into Paresh Rawal's role, And Sanjay Dutt plays Suniel Shetty's part.

This, according to Nadiadwala, would remain the line-up of actors for the Hera Pheri films to come.

The parting with Akshay over Hera Pheri has left Feroz distressed. "I first started discussing the third Hera Pheri movie with Akshay in 2006. I never wanted to make it without him. It's sad that we couldn't come to an agreement. Akshay is like a brother. But I can't afford him. I hope we work together again very soon."

Feroz is delighted with the script that Anees Bazmee has come up with the new Hera Pheri film.

"It's going to be one of the funniest comedies in living memory," promises Feroz.

Any film Aamir does becomes a topic of discussion nationwide. Be it his film on the education system - 3 Idiots or the recently released Peepli [Live], a film on the farmer suicides. They don't call him 'The Perfectionist' for nothing.

If that wasn't enough, Aamir continues to be a red-hot property even in the ad world, in terms of brand endorsements too. After the Etisalat deal, Aamir has apparently, been signed up as the brand ambassador of the 'yet-to-be-launched' two wheelers from the Mahindra stable.

Bipasha will be spending a lot of time in Goa in the coming weeks. First she will shoot her fitness video on the beaches quickly before winter sets in. Then she is all set to shoot a re-mix of the song 'Dum Maro Dum' for Rohan Sippy's film of the same title.

In Rohan Sippy's film, Bipasha Basu is all set to swing to the sound of the R D Burman track 'Dum Maro Dum'. The copyright issues with Dev Anand and his film Hare Rama Hare Krishna have apparently been sorted out. Pritam Chakraborty is all set to record a new version of the Asha Bhosle classic.

Says Bipasha, "I can't talk about it right now. But when it happens it will happen. Give it another two weeks."

She has another issue-based film Aakrosh coming up after Lamhaa. And Bipasha wonders how the audience would react to it. "The social issue, honour killings, is treated like a thriller. Even Lamhaa was treated like a thriller. But how many people went to see it?"

Bipasha plays a schoolteacher in a tradition-bound village in Aakrosh. "For me the interesting part of doing Aakrosh was to see how far away I can get away from my glamorous image. I discovered it was easy for me to do real characters. The director, Priyadarshan, is a delight to work with. And my co-star is Ajay Devgn who is a good dependable actor. I've another film Mr. Fraud with Ajay directed by Abbas-Mustan which got stuck. I don't know if that will ever release."

Bipasha has a message for her colleagues who are keen to lend their names to issue-based films. "Don't charge any money for working in such films. It's the only way to make issue-based films commercially viable."

Says the actress, "After Lamhaa, I am tempted to tell a committed filmmaker like Rahul Dholakia to make out-and-out commercial films. Or if you make a film on a social issue then make sure it doesn't go over-budget. The audience doesn't care about what's happening in the real world. It's shameful that Lamhaa was so costly. If it was made for Rs. 4 crores it would have been a hit. When a mainstream actor does a film on a social cause it should be done free of cost as a sign of commitment to society."

Bipasha is all set to go to Goa well in advance of her earlier plan to shoot her video. "I want it to be shot outdoors in Goa. Winter gets too crowded. And I've a film to shoot in September. So I've to rush the video. I am going crazy doing my calorie counts. This time I've no team. I am doing everything on my own. It's a little boring to do it by myself. But I've always been a loner."

And yes, all is well between Bipasha and John. Says Bipasha confidently, "If God forbid, anything were to go wrong between me and John, he would be the loser not me."

John Abraham may go right ahead and insure his body parts. Bipasha isn't doing any such thing. Bipasha can't see the sense of John insuring his butt.

She says, "I'm a body person and I am definitely into fitness. But I'd never insure any body part. He's welcome to do what he likes. I just want to know which insurance company is insuring his butt."

The trend of making sequels has caught on in a big way. In fact, the moment a film hits the bull's eye, most producers immediately jump at the idea of making a sequel to the film. The announcement of a sequel creates tremendous excitement within and outside the film industry and gradually, the film becomes a brand.

The latest news doing the rounds is that producer Ramesh Taurani is planning to make a sequel to ISHQ VISHK. Rumours are rife that Ratna Sinha will direct the film, which is expected to star Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. However, Ramesh Taurani denies the development completely, "It's untrue. We don't have a story for a sequel, so how can we announce the film in the first place?" But he confirms that Ratna Sinha did narrate a subject to him. "But it was for an altogether different film. Beyond that we haven't had any discussions," Taurani adds. 

Meanwhile, Taurani is gearing up to start RACE 2, directed by Abbas-Mustan. This film is likely to take off early next year.

She says Shiloh, who has always been a tomboy and is keen to follow in her older brothers' footsteps, recently found a dead bird and asked if she could keep it for a pet.
But Angelina recalls she told Shiloh if she wanted a dead bird, she should get one from the taxidermist instead.

Best star Wife In 2010

In a previous post I said Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is Bollywood's most bankable star in 2010. Any mention of ARB leads to heated debate - some of you couldn't agree more while others have nothing good to say about her.
Mediocre actor wearing a halo of hype is what most detractors have said in a nutshell. So this time around, I want to open up the conversation and include your opinion on who's on top on Bollywood. So expect a series of posts around the same and I'll try to cull some kind of majority opinion in the summary posts.
There's a great reason to begin the series with the star wife who has come out on top in 2010. A new star wife has joined the Bollywood brigade. Non-filmy, pretty Priyanka Alva takes her place as Vivek Oberoi's bride. Their wedding took place on October 29 in Bangalore and the reception was held on October 31 in Mumbai.
The first part of the year belongs to Gauri Khan. As co-producer of 'My Name is Khan', Gauri adroitly managed the media and fans when Shiv Sainiks threatened to go on a rampage against the film. She refused to accept that controversy made the film fly. Instead, she credited its success to Karan Johar. That was a smart move. Gauri's also appeared in a first TV ad with SRK this year. That's no biggie though. Her fashionista status is cast in stone.
The other Khan wife, Kiran Rao, debuted as a director this year after several years in Bollywood as a producer and assistant director. The usually reticent Kiran has kept Dhobi Ghat largely under wraps. There is none of the hoohaa which surrounds an Aamir Khan film. But then, it is a Kiran Rao film. I am hoping Dhobi Ghat makes us feel as good about seeing a film as Aamir Khan's films do.
My overwhelming image of Suzzanne Khan in 2010 is pale going on ghostly white. Really. She looks almost translucent and I really can't think of any other talking point for her this year.
Then there is Twinkle. She made models trip on the ramp by shining her twinkling phone at them. Not in real life though. I am sure they wouldn't want another case slapped on them. What else did she do in 2010? Paid attention to her superstar dad and got Akshay to do so as well. If you saw the ZeeTV Dhinchak Diwali you'll know what I mean. Will this begin a trend of PR involving sasurs? I don't know. But if Twinkle or Akshay is responsible for giving back Rajesh Khanna a dollop of lost self esteem and worth, it's worth it.
That largely rounds up the star wives of 2010, for me. In my book, Priyanka Alva Oberoi is likely to be a star. She has to contend with a lot of conjecture. But she looks like she can coast along just fine with eyes wide open.
So who did I miss out?

Why is Pallavi here? Simply put, we love a girl in our shirt. So, when the stylist couldn’t come up with a third change we were only too happy to offer. You see when a girl this hot asks you to take off your shirt you don’t really think. So, is that what happened? Almost. But the shirt that you see Pallavi Das playing around in wasn’t the shirt off our back. It was our shirt, but it was in a bag. But hey, nothing beats the new shirt smell like a really hot girl in it.
And, we just read the last line and realised we haven’t written a word of what Pallavi does – other than wearing our shirts of course. Pallavi, a girl from Assam had always dreamt of becoming a model. But it was only after her graduation that she finally gave ‘it a shot’. In her few days in the world of glitz and glamour, Pallavi already has built an impressive kitty of work for herself. She has just done Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010, a couple of other shows, but it’s the promo for Volkswagen Polo that we remember her from.
So where will we see her again? She excitedly gushes about all that she wants to do in the future. “I want to do more print and TV commercials,” she says. Plus there is break into the big world of Bollywood she’s looking forward to.
The story though gets even better. Pallavi is every bit the quintessential ‘Mills and Boon fairy tale romance’ kind of girl. She wants her perfect date to be “a romantic dinner with good music and a nice walk on a quiet beach…listening to the sound of the waves.” None of that new age independence let’s go jump-off a cliff for the first date. Her perfect guy is someone who doesn’t look like road-kill and has a great sense of humour.
But there are also a few rather surprising facts about this girl that we dug out over pizza. Pallavi apparently had wanted to become a pilot as a kid. And if she was not modelling, she would have been doing her Masters in Sociology to become a HR manager somewhere. Thank heavens she didn’t.
We ask her what she can’t go to bed about, half hoping she’d say our shirt and she says ‘night cream’ with a wink.
That’s when we take the shirt away. She’s cute as a button – but it’s one hell of a good shirt.

Anything but y-fronts
  1. Boxers
    This is another one of our things we don’t mind lending to the women. The ones above work too but check boxers are sexier for some reason. But, nothing kills the whole thing like a girl who buys her own.
  2. Baniyan
    Ok let’s face it. We don’t know why we wear them. Maybe because mother made us, growing up. Maybe it squashes ‘em man-boobs together. Who knows. But the fact is that a vest falls on a girl like nobody’s business. As long as she can’t use it as a bra to work – it’s bloody hot.
  3. Jackets
    For some very, very strange reason – we like the girl smell in our jackets. More so in the case of winter jackets – the naked girl smell lasts longer and brings a smirk to the face every time we wear it. We love it if you borrow our bomber jackets. We love it when you tell friends it’s ours. But more than that we love it when you wear it at home..and that’s all you wear.
  4. Old T-shirt
We all have an old, overused, white T-shirt we don’t wear anymore. We love it when you pick it out of our closets one morning after staying over and never return it. We will be children and ask you to return it somewhere public. You will look at us and ask us: “How old are you? Three?”. We don’t care baby, we’re already imagining you without it.
Just don’t lend it to another boy if we breakup.

Katrina Kaif to sport a bikini for ‘Dostana 2'

Nevertheless, her career soared high slowly and of late, she has refrained from much exposure in her recent films.

But as she is set to exude appeal for ‘Dostana 2’, she will don a bikini for the film. Priyanka Chopra had impressed everyone with her goldne bikini in ‘Dostana’ and now, Manish Malhotra is designing Katrina’s beach wear and selecting the colors that suits her the most.

Dostana 2 will have Katrina in a more sexy look than her cute look which she has been seen with in her recent flicks.
